I think as connected as we think we are it really falls short of face to face communication.
I might be the 5th person to inform IT that email appears to be down. This is irritating to them but I’m just trying to make sure the know. If we were more connected i.e. worked more closely I would already know that they were scrambling to get it fixed.
I might be tasked with a small part of a large project but when I haven’t been involved in any of the planning meetings then I feel left out because I don’t have any perspective. On the other hand if spend endless hours attending meetings for a project that I only have a small part in then it seems like wasted time. If we all worked together in the same office then have a better perspective simply from daily contact with coworkers.
